In the morning of 7 July 2020, with the joy of the experts, the Management and the Project team of Gemalink International Port, M/V Mega Caravan-2, an equipment vessel, carrying 02 STS cranes arrived safely at the harbor. The world's highest and most modern crane towers first time present in Vietnam, with the red flag and the yellow star proudly fluttering on the deep blue sky, joyfully joined in the great port network of Gemadept Corporation.
Manufactured by Doosan, South Korea, the world's leading group in the field of mechanical engineering, including port equipment, the STS cranes equipped for Gemalink Port are designed with the height of 92m - equivalent to a 22-storey building, 150m long, 27m wide, weighing more than 1,700 tons, with the reach of 24 + 2 rows of containers. From the shore, the cranes can reach 70m far on the sea, capable to lift two 20-feet containers at the same time or bulk cargo and project cargo with the tonnage up to 65 tons and 85 tons.
Gemalink Port is designed as a Smart Port, through the software system, all information and data during the crane operation will be transmitted directly to the Port Operation Center, ensuring the control to each container position on the yard; thanks to which, the port operation becomes synchronized in a smooth, efficient and safe manner to bring customers the best service quality.
According to the plan, the installation of all 6 STS cranes, 18 RTG cranes and other equipment of Gemalink Port will be completed by October, ready for the Port to have test-run from November 2020 and officially put into operation from the beginning of 2021. When all the cranes are put into commercial operation, Gemalink Port’s handling capacity of more than 1.5 million tons for Phase 1 will be ensured.
In the urgent speed to complete the construction of the Port infrastructure and the installation of superstructure equipment, the stature of the nationwide largest deep-sea port with a total investment of up to USD 520 million is emerging strongly right at the gateway of Vung Tau’s busy port cluster.
Moreover, Gemalink International Port - a joint venture between Gemadept Corporation and the world's leading shipping company CMA-CGM - will become a pride of Vietnamese people when becoming one of the top 19 trading ports of the world capable of accommodating the largest vessel size up to 200,000 DWT and being among the most important transshipment hubs of Southeast Asia; especially with the strong development potentials from the FTAs, CPTPP and EVFTA, Gemalink Port will contribute to promote the economic growth of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and the whole country.
